What do AI agents say about your Shopify store? The new Knowledge base lets you check
AI shopping agents now get your Shopify store’s non-product facts, such as returns, shipping, payment and contact details, from a Knowledge base you control. On 26 October Shopify built it into the admin under Sales channels > Agentic > Knowledge base. Shopify drafts the facts from your published store pages, but nothing reaches agents until you publish it, so a short review now stops agents from giving shoppers wrong answers.

- The Knowledge base is now in the Shopify admin under Sales channels > Agentic > Knowledge base.
- It replaces the separate Knowledge Base app, which stops working after 15 January 2027.
- Shopify calls these facts the source of truth for AI agents for all non-product information about your store.
- A store can hold up to 1,000 facts. Stores with fewer facts in the old app had them moved and published automatically. Stores with more must add them again before 15 January 2027.
What happened
On 26 October Shopify announced in its changelog that the Knowledge base is now built into the admin. It is one page where you review, edit and publish the facts AI agents get about your store, such as contact details or gift services. Shopify drafts these facts from your published store pages and links each one to the page it came from. If you never used the old app, there is nothing to migrate.
What this means for your site or store
When a shopper asks an AI assistant “Can I return this?” or “Do you ship to Portugal?”, the answer can come from these facts. Wrong or missing facts mean wrong answers, and lost sales.
- Open the Knowledge base and read every draft fact, starting with returns, shipping and payment.
- Fix the store page a fact came from, not only the fact, so your site and the agent say the same thing.
- Add facts shoppers ask about but your pages don’t answer clearly.
- Approve the suggested updates Shopify offers after it rescans your pages.

The technical details
According to Shopify’s Help Center, agents read the published Knowledge base through Storefront MCP (MCP is a standard way for AI agents to use a website’s tools), and it is available to Shop and to third-party AI channels. Facts linked to admin settings, like your policies and contact details, publish automatically. Password-protected stores only share admin data. Outside Shopify’s own channels, AI crawlers still read your pages, robots.txt and llms.txt.
